“Jerome says, ‘Hi’”… This is what Tina added as I ushered her into the STARS closet to get a Zion sweatshirt. She had not gotten one at Christmas, she said, and her mom wanted one, too. Her mom was short and kind of small so maybe a medium would do...
ZION YOUTH MINISTRIES, GRADES 7-12
We are thrilled that your student might find a home here at Zion. We are honored that you would trust us to be a part of their spiritual development. We will do our best to build relationships and invest in them as they seek to connect with Christ and with one another. If we can serve you as parents, serve your students, serve your family in any way, please let us know and we will do our absolute best. As leaders, we use the following principles to guide all we do:
Serve - we try to meet felt needs, physical needs, and spiritual needs. We love students and by serving them we serve Christ. By serving others, we grow in our faith and become more like Christ.
Teach - we value knowledge, and seek to connect head, heart, and hands. We learn by doing, we do that we may learn, and believe that a well rounded spiritual life is one of study (personal and corporate) as well as service.
Advocate - we want students to know we are THERE for them. We want to be an ear, a voice, and influence for the good in their lives. We will speak truth to them, and for them as well!
Reach - we value relationships, real and honest relationships. That is not easy, it is more than a text or direct message. It is lived in the real world with real people. In that, we share real hearts, live real lives, and experience a very real Jesus! We hope to reach every student with the reality of hope found in Christ.
Send- we want to send your student out in to the world- to school, work and play with the skills to navigate through obstacles and live as a follower of Jesus. We want to instill in them a desire to GO! Serve Jesus. By doing this it is our hope that they will set an excellent example to their peers, loved ones, and each person they cross paths with of what it is like to be a Christian. We hope we can give them the tools to set themselves apart from others and truly be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Every student is a STARS Student in our book, and in doing these five things in all our ministry endeavors, we pray Christ is glorified in and through us!
Wednesday nights- STARS Academy
Wednesday nights are energetic and amazing at Zion! We worship loudly, we love loudly! And we have something for everyone...
Our 7-12th grade groups break down like this:
Prep Academy: 7-12th grade students that benefit from learning life skills and getting homework help along with learning about Jesus.
Believers Academy: 7-8th grade students that are preparing for confirmation at Zion. A two year rotation, learning about the big questions of Christianity and the nuts and bolts of faith in Jesus. Social time, teaching, and small group discussion to follow.
Builders Academy: 9-12th grade students who are ready to challenge themselves with a deeper look at how to be a Christian and what the Bible teaches us. Preparing for life after high school and taking what they learned in confirmation and building on it even more! We focuses on a variety of topics from current events to hot topics like social media and relationships and how they relate to the Bible. We also have a variety of social events, a yearly mission trip, and many other great activities to get involved in!
Come. Learn. Grow. Sunday mornings are a relaxed class setting for our students. We meet from 10:30-11:30am during our education hour, allowing time for students to connect with each other, each other, and with Christ through conversational and interactive lessons.
7-8th grade: Fuel - Foundations is a video-driven Bible study for middle school students that lays a foundation for encountering God in His Word through the great stories of the Bible, told in chronological order. We learn more about the big picture - who God is and who we are in light of that - while learning to connect the threads between Old and New Testament readings.
9-12th grade: Sunday school for 9-12 grade students focuses on everything from current events, to large group discussions, even participating in service projects. Depending on the week your student may be watching and discussing a video based on one of the 36 Parables, discussing issues that they can relate to, or helping with set up for a church event. This group of students really use Sunday mornings to build their personal relationships with each other and Jesus! We encourage them to attend the 9:00AM service before attending Sunday school at 10:30 to discuss the sermon.
Activities - we plan a variety of fun and service events throughout the year. Concerts, helping with ministry around the church and community, overnights, camp weeks...more info is available at the Zion Youth Ministry Facebook page, the Zion Youth Ministries Twitter feed, or by contacting Pastor John at Zion!
Who are we? We are sinners of Jesus’ redeeming, a diverse group of students and adults seeking to know Christ and follow Him more closely.
What do we value? Jesus. Scripture as our authority and guide. People. All people, regardless of race/color/creed/origin.
Unity. We are a multi-cultural, multi-age work of art in progress. We are all the same in Christ, and we are seeking ways to do life together under the banner of Heaven.
Service. Serving Christ by serving others.
Fun. We find great joy in Jesus and in being together!
Why do we do this? Because we believe that Jesus was right - “I am the way, and the truth, and the life...” John 14.6
