Celebrate the Pastoral Anniversary of Rev. Billy Young at Reconciler's Worship Center
Zion is invited to come and celebrate the pastoral anniversary of our friend, the Rev. Billy Young, at Reconciler's Worship Center.  Zion's 10:30 service went on a field trip to visit Reconciler's on Sunday, Feb 4.  Those who attended will remember motion of the event.  This is a common practice in African American churches.  It's a way of celebrating the pastor and blessing him.  An offering will be taken.  It will be an extraordinary experience.
Here is what is expressed in the invitation we received:
"As the leader of Reconcilers Worship Center we wanted to take this opportunity to recognize and appreciate our pastor and his spouse for their service. It has been a blessing and honor to learn and be encouraged by a man of God who is diligent, faithful, and devoted to his ministry, family, and also the promise he made to God. Because we all know a fruitful harvest does require a faithful servant!
The  Pastoral Anniversary/Birthday celebration will be held at Reconcilers Worship Center, 920 31st Street Des Moines, Iowa 50312. On Sunday, March 25th, at 11:00 a.m. Our theme is 'Functioning at Your Optimal Potential in Christ.' Coming from our theme scripture,  Ephesians 4:11-16. "
Once again, we have the opportunity to breach the walls of segregation by race on a Sunday afternoon. Please consider attending in order that we may show that we at Zion are willing to go through life together with Reconciler's. Questions? Need a ride? Contact Pastor John

Special Good Friday Noon Service
This year we won't have a Good Friday Service at Zion at noon. Instead, we're asking everyone to meet us at Corinthian Baptist Church, 814 School Street in Des Moines. Corinthian is a historic African American Church in our city. Consider this a "field trip" like we've been taking to visit other churches, breakdown walls, and hopefully encourage racial reconciliation. Can you think of a better way to commemorate our Lord Jesus' sacrificial death on the cross so that we could be reconciled to the Father than to go and as an act of worship, participate in an event of reconciliation?
You can meet us at Corinthian or, a van will leave from Zion at 11:30 a.m. and we're happy to take you. After the service, you're invited to Merle Hay Mall's amazing food court and debrief your experience of this trip over a late lunch. Questions? Contact Pastor John. We hope to see you there. Zion will have a Good Friday service at 6:30 p.m. at Zion as usual.
Add your family name and picture to the Zion Community directory!

There will be a photographer present on SundayMarch 25 and Sunday, April 1st from 10 to 11am., in the Zion lobby to take your family picture and gather information for our new Zion Community Directory! Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of Zion!

The future of Youth at Zion: Youth are he Future of Zion
This has been a hard year for youth/student ministry at Zion.  Staff changes last fall left us unwittingly without direction and a specific vision for youth.  As your lead pastor, I apologize for this as I didn't see this coming.  I'm so incredibly grateful to everyone who stepped forward and helped out in the junior and senior high school ministry.  I'm leaving now for a sabbatical but top of my thoughts and prayers while away will be the future of youth at Zion because the youth are the future of Zion.  We've invested much on Wednesday nights, but that doesn't seem to answer the need being spoken by many here at Zion.  So we will try again.  When I return in July, we'll start with some meetings where you can express your opinions and hopes and dreams.  By fall of 2018, I hope to resolve this issue.  I'm committing the 2 Sundays a month I don't preach to this project and hope to bring some resolutions to Sunday School, busing, Congolese, junior high and high school Sunday activities.  Thank you for your patience.  - Pastor John
