Pastor John's Sabbatical
Pastor John's sabbatical begins April 2. He will return to his duties on July 5.
What Is a sabbatical? Webster's Dictionary defines a sabbatical this way: : a leave often with pay granted usually every seventh year (as to a college professor) for rest, travel, or research - called also sabbatical leave
God created the concept of sabbatical leave when he told ancient Israel to let the land rest every seventh year. Pastor John will shortly begin his thirteenth year at Zion.
Sabbaticals are different from vacations in that they are longer and usually have some purpose. On his sabbatical Pastor John will pray, reflect, write and do some reading. The biggest goal is to rest. Pastor John believes that his absence will help Zion grow and mature as various people will step up to cover his responsibilities. Together we are the church.
Where will he be going? John and his family will be in Europe, seeing old friends and discovering some new places.
Some have asked if Pastor John is transitioning out of leadership at Zion. He hasn't been preaching as much, either. Pastor John still feels called to lead Zion and has been letting others preach more so that they can become accustomed to Zion and also develop their skills. Pastor John will return.
Swahili Service
On March 16th and 17th, the Zion Swahili Service will have a 48 hours of prayer and fasting praying for Zion and all its ministries. Prayers will start on Friday 16th at 10 a.m in the lower level Senior High room. Everyone is invited to join us as we pray for our church of Zion.
Add your family name and picture to the Zion Community directory!
There will be a photographer present on Sunday, March 25 and Sunday, April 1st, in the Zion lobby to take your family picture and gather information for our new Zion Community Directory! Don't miss this opportunity to be a part of Zion!
Farewell to DJ and Sue
Today we say "farewell and thank you" to long time mission partners, DJ and Sue Golightly who are moving to Omaha for a new job. The Golightly's have quite possibly done every job there is to do at Zion, from VBS to getting kids home after STARS to dramas and worship leading, board positions and on and on. The thing about the Golightly's is that they "get" the mission and vision Zion has been called to fulfill by Jesus. We'll miss them. DJ and Sue asked to host the banquet for today's congregational meal, if you brought something to share, great! If you didn't please stay, there should be plenty of food. The Golightly's would like time to visit with you. All are welcome. We'll take some time in the service today to pray for them and send them on their way. Don't be shocked if you keep seeing them from time to time. This will always be a home for them.

Zion ESL offers classes on Wednesday evenings from 6:15 to 7:40 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church.  For those with children enrolled in the STARS Program at Zion, family dinner and child care are available.  Transportation is also possible.
