Bring a Friend to Zion Sunday May 9
We want to invite you to begin praying about whom you will invite to the Will Graham Celebration event in October. Pick up a brochure today in the lobby with a handy page where you can write the names of people you're praying will attend and come to Christ. In addition, please invite a friend to Zion. May 9th is a Second Sunday so it's more of an event and you can even ask them to stay for lunch afterwards. Pray about whom you can invite.
Giving to His Church is Giving to Him
It’s been quite a year for everyone and now we’re beginning to emerge. Please don’t forget to give to Zion. We’re starting to see a slow-down in giving and we don’t want to have to cut back on the ministry we share. So please, if you’re behind in your giving, please give. If you’ve been blessed with extra, share something to stimulate the Lord’s work at Zion. Thank you.

Sharing Hope in a Crisis Seminar
May 1 @ 8:00 am - 4:15 pm
The one-day Sharing Hope in Crisis (SHIC) seminar is intended for anyone and everyone in the church. All of us know a friend, neighbor or co-worker who is struggling with a life crisis. This seminar will help you know what to say and what not to say when people grieve, and how to compassionately and appropriately share the love and hope of Jesus Christ. This training is also beneficial for counselors, first responders and church leaders who face suffering people on a regular basis. This seminar will be held at Walnut Creek Church – Windsor Heights 900 64th Street, Windsor Height, IA 50324. The seminar is led by members of the Crisis Response Team of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Christian Life and Witness Course at Zion: June 10, 17 and 24, 7-9 pm
CLWC will reignite your faith and empower you to live a life that radiates God’s love. Discover the victory He has for His children and equip yourself to share it with others through this dynamic course. You’ll also find practical help in reaching the next generation for Christ. The course is taught by representatives of the Bill Graham Evangelistic Association. This is an excellent resource for us to learn how to disciple people and share our faith. The Course is three weeks long and runs from 7-9 p.m. Zion pastors cannot emphasize the benefit of this course enough!
Pray for Other Churches
We here at Zion are one congregation in the larger Church of Jesus Christ. We are called to be one expression, the best expression possible, of His Church in Iowa. For over a year a number of Pastors have been praying together as to how we can re–present Jesus Christ better together in this Central Region of Iowa. God is doing something special in Iowa.
We believe God The Father will look on us with favor as He sees his sons and daughters serving together just as He designed us. It only seems right and appropriate that we at Zion this morning should have the opportunity to pray for these pastors and their spouses as a congregation.
Today we pray for Evangel Foursquare Chapel, located at 4019 E 42nd St in. Des Moines. We pray for Evangel's pastor, Pastor Brenda Shafer and her husband, Mark.
Evangel Foursquare Chapel is believing the Lord that there will be a great influx of new or re-committed Christians surrounding the Will Graham Celebration. They are stepping out in faith and increasing the size of their sanctuary to accommodate 33% more people. They are getting ready for a great harvest of souls.
Pray that their preparations for this joyous event would be blessed and pray that the congregation would be prepared for the future harvest of souls.
Give Today to Help the People of Burma
Part of being part of the body of Christ is that what happens to our brothers and sisters happens to us. We are one Body, united in Christ. We bear one another's burdens. Right now, many people in our congregation are suffering because of things happening in Burma. We have many Karen children and students in our ministry. We have many Mizo (Chin) members. People in Burma are courageously resisting a military coup. They are staying home from work as a protest and flooding the streets. As a result, many are out of food. We are raising money to send to trustworthy sources who will use it to distribute food to the hungry. More than 400 people have died in the protests so far. Now the violence has spread to other regions as the Burmese military bombs civilians in villages. We'll have a short presentation from LalrinSanga next week during the announcements.
For now, read more below from World Magazine:
Myanmar military continues airstrikes in Karen state by Onize Ohikere Posted 3/31/21, 02:39 am
The military junta in Myanmar, also known as Burma, killed six people and injured 12 others during Tuesday’s airstrikes. Some 12,000 people are internally displaced after weeks of violence, and as many as 3,000 fled into neighboring Thailand over the weekend before being sent back by Thai officers. The Karen National Union, which represents the Karen minority, said military ground troops are advancing into the territory from all fronts and vowed to respond.
Why the escalation in fighting? Fighting began in late December as the military built new roads and camps in violation of a ceasefire agreement. On Saturday, Karen forces attacked a military outpost, killing 10 soldiers and capturing 8. That night, the military dropped bombs on a village in Papun District, the first airstrikes in 20 years, according to Free Burma Rangers. The military is also responding with deadly force to anti-coup protests in major cities. On Tuesday, the Three Brothers Alliance –– which represents guerrilla armies from other minority Rakhine, Kokang and, Ta-ang regions –– threatened to abandon a ceasefire if the attack on protesters continues.
